NordCloud AWS Migration

Migration of 15 services from Heroku to AWS with zero downtime and 40% cost reduction.

§ 01 — The challenge

NordCloud's platform consisted of 15 microservices running on Heroku. As their user base grew, Heroku's pricing became unsustainable — they were spending $18k/month on infrastructure with limited control over scaling and performance tuning.

§ 02 — The approach

We designed an AWS architecture using ECS Fargate for container orchestration, RDS for databases, and CloudFront for CDN. Infrastructure was defined as code using Terraform, and we set up a complete CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions. The migration was executed service-by-service over 6 weeks with zero downtime.

§ 03 — The result

Monthly infrastructure costs dropped from $18k to $10.8k — a 40% reduction. Response times improved by 25% due to better caching and regional deployment. The team now has full control over their infrastructure and can scale individual services independently.
